How to rest...

When you are used to always trying to do something, to help someone, or be someone, it's hard to learn to be still and wait. It's not easy to really listen.
Maybe if you really don't "feel'" it, then you don't need to force yourself to do anything. Maybe it means you need to rest ...
Perhaps everything you've been taught isn't true. Actually I can assure you that not everything we've been told and taught is true. There is a difference between God's voice and man's voice. Can you tell the difference?

Jesus says
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Matthew 17:28-29

Some things just need to get done, I know. But how much of what we're doing really needs to be done? What is compelling us? What is most important, really?

Manuela, There is such a deep passion within me that is demanding that I learn to identify the voice of the Holy Spirit. I believe its so important. One thing I have identified is that His voice always bring peace and never condemnation. I'm still learning.....

You are so right, we have been taught so much rubbish about religion, and its almost like starting again when we discover that.

Hi Lennart,
That is such a good point that "his voice always brings peace and never condemnation"! That's huge
Thanks for sharing...
It's so important to learn to discern his voice, true. It is a learning process.
...Deep down somehow we learn to recognize him... We can't listen to the voice of a "stranger."
John 10:5-
"But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger's voice."

good stuff you two.

Mmm, nice John quote :)

I find too that whenever I do get a sense of his voice and his presence, all that other stuff just drops away anyway, even if it's "important" stuff. But yeah, I agree - so much of what we do is just kinda ... well, not pointless but just really unnecessary. I reckon it would blow our minds to realise how little we need :)

Hey Kent

I know, Sue. That John quote just popped in my head the other day and so I looked it up and it's so refreshing and even funny- I just pictured these sheep running away for dear life...
and then I realized it's so good to run away from some crap, no matter what they say!
It is very refreshing that we are forever his, listening only to him (his grace and truth).

...not that we listen perfectly, of course; that's the goal. I just take assurance that ultimately we all (his sheep, who are not terribly bright at times) ultimately do recognize his voice and follow (if we don't get distracted, of course) But like you said, Sue, when we get "a sense of his voice and his presence, all that other stuff just drops away anyway"
Nothing can even compare...

Sue said...

No, nothing can compare to that, can it? Like the most beautiful expensive jewels wrapped up in a voice, which I do not hear audibly :)

Still, that voice seems far away at the moment, even though I know he is not. Life is just plain irritating at times. Can we go onto the next bit, yet?

Delayed response...I hear you Sue
